Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization

Mining in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is an emerging industry offering impressive opportunities for mining, resources and infrastructure companies. Gulf countries in particular, are looking to diversify their economies in order to reduce their dependency on oil and gas and create jobs for their young, fast-growing population.

Arabian regions are being surveyed using modern technologies and equipment to identify areas of growth and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is developing a unified framework to evolve custom policies and trade regulations to bolster the formation of a world class industry.

  • The United Arab Emirates is growing its capacity and serving as a hub for mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies selling into adjacent regions, such as Africa and CIS.
  • Morocco and adjacent regions have two thirds of the world’s phosphate reserves. It has developed a new mining code based on international best practice, with the integration of some tax incentives.
  • Mining is also an integral pillar of diversification away from hydrocarbons for Saudi Arabia. To facilitate this, 3000km of freight rail for moving extracted minerals is to be doubled to 6000km.
  • Egypt has the fourth largest supply of tantalite in the world, major resources in the region include phosphates, uranium, copper, gold, iron ore, manganese and industrial rocks.
  • Morocco and Saudi Arabia have been identified as markets with future opportunities in mining, resources and infrastructure and a large proportion of mineral resources. Crude oil, natural gas, barite, copper, silver and phosphate are some of the largest commodities opportunities being commercially exported. With the large concentration of natural resources in these countries, global mining companies are looking for long term sustainability, especially in light of the recent plateau in the industry.

The Mineral Resources Map is published in large-scale format with high detailing and produced in thick quality artboard.

The perimeter features a maximum of 10 industry sponsors offering solutions to cover the entire exploration, extraction and process chain, mining equipment, technology and services.
